thePOD: What is it? It could be described as a "wooden tent" or "micro-lodge" but we prefer to call it the "continental camping hut" as the idea is better established in regions of Europe than in the U.K. The design is not only very practical but is truely aesthetically pleasing and will sit well in any landscape - it is reminiscent of the romantic idyll of the romany bow-top caravan and upturned boat. The POD is nom. 13' long, 8' 6" wide and 8' high while the internal floor area is approximately 8' x 9' with plenty of headroom. The treated timber construction is protected by a roof of Decra's excellent Oberon panel system. This is available in a range of four colours and comes with a 25 year warranty. The structure is insulated and the lockable door / window arrangement is double glazed with toughened glass. The basic POD is transported by Hi-ab equipped truck but it can also be built onto a single axle "static" type chassis with removable draw bar. Other options include electric hookup with fixed appliances such as radiant heater and microwave cooker even thermostatically controlled electric under-floor heating! The POD benefits from the addition of a small area of decking at the facade which we can supply or you can make your own arrangements. There has never been a time when we as a nation have enjoyed as much leisure time and for many this is spent in the "great outdoors". The POD offers a new dimension in accomodation provision that is both affordable and comfortable - indeed there is a real demand among walkers and recreational cyclists for a network of affordable accommodation centres similar in concept to a "motel". - If you have had a hard day out "on the trail", the POD does offer a welcome alternative to pitching camp in potentially poor conditions. The POD is protected by the U.K. Intellectual Property Office under Registered design no.: 4 001 582 and available exclusively from Newfoundland Leisure Lodges Ltd |
